About me

Hi there. I’m Marianne Crowder, a freelance technical writer based in Cambridge, UK.

People often ask me why I became a technical writer. The answer is that I’ve been fascinated by technology since childhood. I’ve always wanted to know how things work and why they have been designed in a particular way. However, when it came to software, that fascination was often marred by frustration. Opaque terminology, confusing workflows and manuals replete with abstract descriptions left me struggling to achieve what I wanted.

Now, I collaborate with developers, designers, product managers, usability specialists, testers and support staff to make software more usable and accessible. Technology has huge potential to deliver value for all of us – my aim is to help people discover that value.

I specialise in B2B software and have worked on SaaS products, mobile apps and desktop software for a wide range of industries. Working in the fast-moving world of software means there is always more to learn. I enjoy the challenge of building new domain knowledge and am adept at getting up to speed quickly on areas that are new to me.

My technical writing services cover everything from articles and sales collateral to API references, UI copy and tutorials. As an experienced Agile and DevOps practitioner, I’m here to collaborate with your team and support your development process.

If you’re looking for a wordsmith to bring clarity to technical complexity, I’d love to hear from you.
